Hi tech wizards,
I have a problem.
My iMac keeps waking itself up all the time. What can be the reason for this? When I put it to sleep, ten minutes later it weeks up again, so I have to put it to sleep again. Sometimes it stays asleep for a few hours but then it wakes itself up again. I have set the energy saver to about ten minutes to put the computer to sleep when it is inactive so it won't stay on all night or when I am not at home.
Is this a virus or something?
All help appreciated,
Julian

Is it connected to the internet? Is there software that wants to update or connect for some reason with the internet? Is there back up software wanting to back up to a hard disk or on the internet?

Well of course Robert it is connected to the internet. Is there any software that wants to update? No idea. How do I find out?

My MacPro seems to wake up a few seconds at regular intervals when Entourage(2008) left launched.

I may be wrong.

Little Snitch tells me what is trying to be accessed via the internet. If the sleepless Mac bothers you try disconnecting the internet and see if the sleep function is still disrupted.

Julian, If  my iMac wakes up during the night it will again, in the allotted time, go back to sleep... does your computer refuse to go to sleep after waking?

My Mac is a very irregular sleeper. I have set the Energy Saver so that my Mac goes back to sleep after 10 minutes when inactive. That usually works well enough but not always. Some days there is no sleeping problem at all. It's like a annoying child.

I solved the poor sleeping problem by using this menubar item:

Please Sleep

http://www.dragonone.com/products/macosx/pleasesleep/

It's donationware. Works like a charm!
