Recording streaming videos

is there any software that can record streaming videos or anything else that plays on the Mac desktop - (not via Youtube).
I am thinking of doing a course via the web and it would be great if I also could record the weekly lessons so I can watch them again later.
All suggestions welcome.

I am surprised to hear there is a course that is strictly streamed and not also available as a video-podcast. One of the advantages of video and audio podcasts is the ability to review the lesson as much as you like. May I ask which course you are referring to?

After trying out several streaming video recorders for the Mac, I settled on the Snapz Pro X which costs $69 but works very well - recording audio at the same time with the video channel and allows you to save the result at different resolutions to reduce file size if you don't want huge files.
