Silly question, perhaps...

What's the best way to send a bunch of photo files to a handful of people?  Some of the recipients may be using Macs, but not all of them.  I presume I should compress them somehow into one file, but how (so that they will all be able to open the file)?

Many thanks!

Simplest way would be to control-click ('right-click') on the folder and choose "Compress 'xyz folder'" from the contextual menu; this makes a zip file that can be opened by Win users. But my experience is that this often doesn't cut down the file size much.

Mac "MobileMe" (or whatever it's called these days) probably has some slick server-based solution for this. But I've never drunk that particular Cool-Aid.

Some people rave about DropBox (dropbox.com) for moving files. I've tried it a bit, works fine.

If you have your own hosted domain (cheap, fun and powerful), you can just make an 'album' on any html page, password-protect the folder the page is in, and then send your people the URL, username, and password. You might even find a slicker photo-album app in the Control Panel's various tools (CP the host provides).

I'm sure some of the sharper Mac Heads here have better solutions...
