(I'd rather be.....)

« on: November 09, 2010, 06:48:18 PM »

Suddenly I can not use my HP 2450 printer.  I saw an explamation point next to the printer and researched it to discover that it meant a job was stopped. I went to the open status box and cleared all the jobs and started again.  It sees the job and indicates that it's being sent to the printer, but nothing prints.  Then it reverts to "jobs stopped." Again & again I made the job active (thereupon the status box indicated it was being sent to the printer) or deleted it and started over.

I tried soft booting and then hard booting my printer.

I went to System Preferences and then to Print & Fax, and I see that although the printer is indicated in the Printer pop-up menu, when I try to click on it, the printer hilites but the little adjacent box does not turn blue to indicate it's been selected. It stays grayed out.

I cannot use the printer and I'm very frustrated.  Do I need to reinstall the printer or am I missing something?  All suggestions very welcome. [Colin's right about the "newer" HP printers!]

Did you do the recent HP update via Apple Software update? Came through this past week.

Thank you, Robert.... good idea; I'm dreadful about staying on top of updates.  But I finally discovered a simple problem.  I'd checked that all my cables were securely in.... except for one... the connection to the Belkin hub. Must have gotten dislodged when I was cleaning recently.

That's what I get for cleaning. Thanks very much again for responding,
