I logged out of my computer (an extra used by the family) in order to give it to a friend, but now I can't remember the name and password. How can I set it up for my friend to use... at this time I can't get beyond the login stage.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Usually, boot from installer DVD and reset password.

Or, (I've never done this...)

Magically, restarting while holding down Command +S brought me back to the desktop. Now I hope the friend, who I am giving the Mac to, will remember to shut down without Logging out. Thank you for the link!!
