Time held me green and dying,

I just acquired an old G4 iMac (the one that looks like a Xmas pudding with a shaving mirror attached). It works fine but has no Airport (AirMac) card and so cannot join our home network.

Does anybody know offhand if Apple still make these, or failing that, the location of a good spare parts shop where I might pick up a used one?

Apple doesn't make or stock them anymore. There are also 2 types:

iMac G4 700/800MHz - Airport/AirMac (IEEE 802.11b)

iMac G4 (USB 2.0) 1.0/1.25 GHz Airport/AirMac Extreme (IEEE 802.11g)

The two cards are not interchangeable.

You should be able to get them at SofMap Saurus 2 4F in Nansan Dori, Nipponbashi

Another option is a little USB WiFi dongle. It may take some searching to find one that supports PowerPC, OS 10.4 as most are Intel-only.

If it is the early model, there are two at KitCut's online store in Shiga. Thanks to Robert Seltman for the link in another post.

Thanks Colin -- most useful and quick. I will now have to decide what I'm going to do with the machine. It feels strange using a mouse again after all these years with Power/MacBooks.

I am just the opposite... I have never adjusted to the 'magic' touch pad and still prefer the mouse, even in a powerbook. The Magic Trackpad is $69 US or ¥6800 at Apple and probably a bit too expensive for most people.

Well -- I got the Airport card via KitKut, fitted it to the iMac today, but I can't get it to recognise our network. The Base Station is an AirMac Extreme.
There is a MacBook sitting next to the iMac upstairs which has no such problems. It's an 800 mhz iMac running OS 10.4 Tiger. Anyone got any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Answering me own query here. If you forget to plug in the Airport card antenna thing. It won't work. Thanks to JJJ for enlightening me here. All shipshape & Bristol fashion now... Roll Eyes
