Japanese iPad

I've just bought an iPad so I'm a total newbie but I managed to set the language to English. To my horror, all the apps like Safari etc. are still in Japanese. How can I get rid of these and replace them with the English versions?

I have no idea how to repair your predicament, but I'm not surprised that you're in it given they way things tend to work here. I was excited to think that I might be able to get an AU iPhone, but thoughts of exactly this sort of thing have calmed me down quite a bit.

I have not heard of this problem and know numerous foreigners who use iPads and haven't complained. My guess is that you may need to do something like restart the iPad. I only have an iPhone 4 which has a similar OS, but try holding down the button on the top of the device for 15 seconds. A red shut down button should then appear. Swipe this to shut the device down, wait 10 seconds after it has shut down and then hold down the button again until it begins to start up.
