Hello, all!

I know Paolo recently talked about various ways to watch TV on our computers -- mostly overseas programming, if I understood correctly.

I've heard that we can buy a converter here to watch local, Japanese TV on our computers as well.  Is it true?  What do I need to buy?  I am one of those who still has an old analog TV, but am not quite ready to spring for a new digital version.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello, I talked about Slingbox and Vulkano. If you buy one of them from USA is cheaper than in Japan but if you install it you will watch Japanese TV not overseas tv. To watch overseas tv the Sling or Vulakno must be in that country. Then by the software you can watch the overseas program. Is it clear?

Hi Paolo,

Thanks very much for your reply!

So if I use Slingbox, for example, in Japan...
Can I watch all Japanese TV stations on my computer?  (BS stations, too?)

Thanks again!

Yes of course. but check if your decoder is compatible with Slingbox Pro HD. You can check on the Japanese page. But I recommend to you to purchase it in the USA. It is cheaper and it is... the same! Do you know how and where to purchase it?

1) Sorry, I don't understand.  "Decoder" = Slingbox?

2) If you have ideas about how/where to purchase Slingbox in the U.S., I welcome your advice.

Grazie mille!   Smiley

Hi Brian,
for "decoder" I mean your Tuner! How do you receive BS and japanese channels? With a box attached to your Tv set, I presume. This is the "decoder", Tuner or what else.
To buy a Slingbox pro HD go here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sling+media+slingbox+pro-hd&N=0&InitialSearch=yes

Price is $269.99 + shipping. It will be cheaper than in Japan ( around Yen 35.000) .

For compatibility look here and search for your Tuner: http://www.slingbox.jp/support/remotelist.html
If you find just a similar one but exactly your model (Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba etc) call the support center and tell them that you are planning to buy a Slingbox Pro Hd but you want to be sure it is compatible

If you still have question and you have time to come to my Trattoria I can show you how it works. My Slingbox Pro HD is there!
Ciao

Hi Paolo,

Thanks very much for the details and helpful information!  It's good for me and I'll bet some other people here can use this information, too.

Yes, just about everything is cheaper in the States now with these exchanges rates.

Many thanks again!
