After years of using AirMac v2.0.2, installed during my 0S9 days, and which had been working perfectly well with my QuickSilver and MacBook and iBook, of late, it got unstable and unreliable;
I decided it was time for a change.

In replacement I installed AirMac Extreme which works beautifully with the QS and the MacBook, but not with the iBook. The latter runs on OSX10.3.9. Yet, the install manual of Extreme states older versions of AirMac will work with it.

When I click the faded out signal strength icon in the menu bar of the iBook a pop up window warns to the effect there has been a problem in connecting with AirMac. That's all. Not very helpful. Can you help? Perhaps, AirMac v2.0.2 is too old and should be upgraded to a later version? (But iBook unsurprisingly rejects the Extreme software.) Or simply a hopeless case?

TIA

While it _ought_ to work, I have run into this kind of problem repeatedly. My guess is that upgrading the OS to 10.4.11 (Tiger) might fix the problem. Before this you should ensure that the AirMac Extreme firmware is updated to the latest version by using the AirMac Utility on a computer running (from memory) 10.5.8 or later - there may be a bug fix in there.

Many thanks, Colin for the advice. I tried to upgrade the iBook to Tiger, but the machine rejects the installer. I then deleted the Panther partition and tried again with iBook which again rejected the Tiger installer. The iBook is a G3 and Power PC. From what I can gather, this model should accept Tiger. Am I misinformed or is there some problem with the iBook?
