Time held me green and dying,

My external HD has become an awkward cuss recently and refuses to mount itself on the desktop. There used to be devices like MounEm back in the day, does anyone know of anything like that for OS 10 Snow Leopard? Sad

This won't answer your question, but as an aside, be sure and get your new HD sooner than later. Apparently most HD are assembled in Thailand, and due to the recent catostrphic flooding, HD will be getting very expensive until the factories dry out. There has been a run on hard drives internationally. Costco in the States have limited purchases to two (though have yet to raise their prices, so buys are still good buys). Thailand is doing its best to correct the situation but, since you need a backup HD, best to order soon, just in case prices go through the roof.

No doubt you are right Robert, but I think Steve Jobs was also right -- Cloud computing is the future. I will Lionize this MacBook Pro for its Christmas present next mon and back-up the Brave New World way.... if that screws up I've always got 'the HueyCobra' donated to me gratis by your man Ron Read. No need to purchase anything soon, methinks...

I'm sure Jobs was right though. Just reading a Business Week edition devoted to his memory. Lots of quotes & anecdotes.

My favourite is the one that he was inspired by the Andean Condor, as it is the most efficient of all birds in the way it uses its wingspan & wing flukes to soar like a glider (or rather the glider soars like a condor). Jobs observed that this made mankind somewhat inferior, efficiency-wise. However, give a person a bicycle and they get very close to a condor, efficiency-wise.

Jobs wanted his PC to be 'a bicycle for the mind'.

Is that cool or what.... Wink

No doubt you are right, Deano, and cloud-cuckoo computing is the wave of the future, but I'm keeping my data, programs and info and it's backups safe at home, where I can use it and others can't.

A most American sentiment. No doubt you are right Tall Paul, but maybe the way round this problem is to not have anything too precious that others cannot share.

To quote the Jefferson Airplane 'All your private property is target for your enemies' ...
