Is it called 'ripping'?

I'm doing an on line course and the lessons have brief videos imbedded. The format and content of these videos I can use in other applications. Is there a way I can download these videos. Or, will someone be at the meeting who can advise me on the topic?

There is a add-on for Firefox called 'Download Helper' which should make it possible for you to download these on-line vids. This is not 'ripping' though. Ripping is when you extract stuff from a DVD disc for copying purposes. AFAIK off course.

The download helper does not always work for all kinds of videos. I don't think it will work for your courses.
You can record the videos with sound on your screen with Snapz Pro X and save them as .mov files which you can watch in Quicktime.
Another app that does the same is Screenflicks.
If you want to record your own voice as well, do not use a USB headset because these applications cannot record USB sound. You'll need an audio headset, for example the set that comes with your iPhone and has a small mike attached.. You can plug it into your Mac headphones input but not all Macs support this feature however. You'll need to check this first.
Using separate mike and headphones is also possible.
