Time held me green and dying,

WWW
« on: July 11, 2008, 12:33:01 AM »

For the last couple of months or so, I've had 'Get Ready! Mobile Me is coming!

And tonight I log on to dot Mac and lo Mobile Me is here. So we install the b@gger and then when we try to check email we get

'Service unavailable. Scheduled maintenance work in progress. Please try later...'

for the last 6 (SIX) hours.  I feel like a one-legged in an arse-kicking contest.

NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL APPLE!  Bloody shoddy! Incompetence City USA!

After a couple of futile attempts to get access to MobileMe, Apple are being honest at last and admitting -- 'It's taking us much longer than anticipated'. The dotmac blurn screen now reads dotmac will SOON be MobileMe.

So that's all right then  Undecided

Go to www.me.com instead of www.mac.com.

MobileMe is presently a mixed bag, because not everything works.

Ah... That made a difference. Thank you, Ernest. No more of that ingratiatingly annoying  explanatory jerk video anyway. An American version of Uriah Heep...  Roll Eyes

Already an update 1.1 has come down the pipe, so it looks like for now it is still a work in progress. So long as I've got my mail the rest can go whistle Dixie. My on-line address book seems to have gone the journey and I never did get round to updating the HD version, looks like I'll have to look in my meishi holder to do that.

If this new me thing turns out to be as good as they claim--this is a major step up. Undecided

Time will tell.

MobleMe seems to be up and working.  At least I can get mail and the other files seem to be working...  We will see.

As mentioned in another thread, MobileMe has worked perfectly for me from the day it started (even before the update). Sent some test messages this morning to make sure the replacement of my iPhone didn't cause any trouble but it's all still fine.

Maybe getting setup early made a difference.

Jimmie it has been so reassuring hearing your close to pleasant experience with your iPhone. I am so psyched to get my iPhone when I return from New York. I wish there was a way to make it truly international, so that I could take it with me no matter where I go in the world.

It would be great to have it as I land in New York and call the cab I have arranged, have it their for the three weeks, and than use it later when I go and do dental work in Thailand. I wonder who will be coming out with a phone for world road warriors with all the beanies of an iPhone. I can't see why it shouldn't happen soon and be available for purchase or rental at every airport and train station in the world.

I wonder if the answer isn't being manufactured now by some clone operation in China?

I just got the following email from the MobileMe team:

Quote
We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.
Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.
Another snag we have run into is our use of the word "push" in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe "cloud," changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word "push" until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.
We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.
We hope you enjoy your new suite of web applications at me.com, in addition to keeping your iPhone and iPod touch wirelessly in sync with these new web applications and your Mac or PC.
Thank you,
The MobileMe Team
