How would a young person express being in style these days?

I say 'cool' but it feels stale, like some character from an outdated movie. Is this what a college student in the States says when out with friends? Somehow I imagine there is a litany of contemporary phrases but the few I have heard seem specific to groups, like 'tubular' for surferers.
