Hey, quick question - I'm helping my inlaws set up a new mac. What's the utility to synchronise settings form the old one called? (Doing it blind, over the phone, without a mac to work on at my end). He didn't have a FW cable when I was over there and the wizard popped up when he booted the machine and I can't remember what i's called.
Will it transfer his old files too, or just mail settings?
I'd rather just network the whole thing, but don't have time to give him the history of TCP/IP lecture to get that working...

When I bought my new Mac in June, part of the standard set up dialog was something to the effect "Do you want to transfer from another Mac?" - I answered Yes, and it tald you to connect a Firewire cable and everything was transferred automatically, settings and all - it was the easiest and totally stressless switchover I have ever had.

Yes, we did that but he didn't have a FW cable to do the hookup at the time. I remember it said something like "you can do this any time later by running XXXXXX " but for the life of me I can't remember what it said. He's got a cable now, but I'm flying blind trying to get him to run the sync now.
Anyone know what the utility is called?

Maybe   'Migration Assistant' is what you are looking for.  It's in my utilities folder (10.4.11).  No personal experience to help out with though.

Great, I think that's the one. Unfortunately, it looks like he actually bought a USB cable instead of FW, so it's back to the store and try another day...
