Genial kmugger Richard Farmer is selling a brand-new iPod Touch. In his own words:

The iPod Touch 32Gb Second Generation is new and unopened. It has a 1 year Apple warranty. That Warranty can be upgraded to an Apple care plan for 2 years longer but you must do so before October 27. 2009. Otherwise the Warranty is just 1 year.

I am asking ¥42,000. firm. The going price at the Apple store Japan is ¥47,800.

If you or anyone you know may be interested, please contact me ASAP. I intend to sell it before I depart for Vietnam on the 18th. First come first serve.

Comments from Colin: This the BIG iPod Touch - 32GB - at a very good price. I would be buying it myself if I didn't already have an iPod Touch. These things are called iPods, but they are basically an iPhone without the phone. I use mine as a mini-computer. I record appointments, play movies, take notes, do email, browse the web, read eBooks, play YouTube videos and use a dictionary that I bought for 600 yen from Apple's Application Store. I had been waiting for something like this ever since my Psion PDA died in  2003.

I think the WiFi connection is just like Airport on a laptop--as long as you can find an unsecured hotspot (or know the password to it), you should be able to connect. I think it's just the telephone part of iPhone that requires a telecom contract or some kind of roaming arrangement. But this is just my offhand guess. Huh

Richard's iPod Touch has been sold, but to answer the questions:

The iPod Touch accesses the Internet via WiFi, so you need a WiFi connection. I have an AirMac Extreme at home and an old-model AirMac Express at work. I also use WiFi at cafes, McDonalds, and just occasionally private citizens' unsecured networks.

But as for running iWeb, although I use the Touch as a highly portable computer, that sort of thing is well past its limits.  You can download various applications, some costing, some free, from the iTunesApp store and there may be some which can edit a blog, but that would be about all, I would think.

The same version of this iPod Touch (32 Gb) is sold at Costco in Amagasaki for 43.800 yen. About 4000 yen less that retail price. Of course also the other models ( 8 and 16) are sold about 4000 yen less that retail prices!
With iPod Touch and a earphone equipped with a microphone you can also make calls with Truphone   (www.truphone.com) or call Skype contact for free with Truphone or Nimbuzz (www.nimbuzz.com) . All are fre App

Does the person receiving the call use her computer or does it somehow connect to their land-line home phone?

Truephone is very similar to Skype. Calls to other truphone user are free all over the world and you can make calls to normal phone for a cheap price (Very close to Skype rates). Nimbuzz works only to Skype members and other similar.
Truphone doesn`t have a desktop version at all, like Skype.
Anyway check the Home Pages and everything is written there in plain English (better than mine) Wink)
